Felt the need to bead. Put away the scrapbooking for a while and then got a bad case of Beader's Block. So I fixed up 5 containers of a variety of stones, and instructed my 3.5 year old to pick out beads in random order.

Turned out pretty well! He got bored and ran off about halfway through, so I had to continue to try and approximate Toddler Randomness. Will try it again when he's older... or next time make a bracelet!

Most of my knitting time lately has been consumed by Clapotis. I get maybe an hour or two a week to work on her, so it's slow going. Here she is so far, in Spirit Trail Fiberworks silk/merino on #8's:

Four dropped stitches, 787983792739487398 to go:

I found a boo-boo on her, desperately trying to figure out what it is:

Next up: something, as yet to be determined, made of the luscious Manos that I scored Saturday:

Editorial on the fiber arts "trend" in today's NYT.

No new pictures, but I'm almost through the increase section of clapotis, and am making slow but steady progress on my other scarves.

O, and I swore I wouldn't do it, but I got a drop spindle and some wool, because I just need another addiction. ;)

It's a... square!

Scarf for my FIL. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran color 609, knit on size 6's. Couldn't be simpler in "farrow rib": CO a multiple of 3 (I'm CO 42) and k2, p1 across each row.

first cables! [Mar. 1st, 2005|08:04 am]

One repeat in to the Irish Hiking Scarf. First cables were accomplished this morning at 6:30 a.m. I'm using the Jo Sharp DK wool that I bought (and hated) for Cozy. I'm still not fond of the yarn, but it's working better for this project just because it sticks to itself so well, and I'm not worrying about dropping stitches as I wrestle with the cables.

Also on the needles: the Mostly Knit Round Hat from Sally Melville's The Knit Stitch. About 50% done in Mountain Colors 4/8's wool. Very yummy.

Starting to plan Christmas presents (if I have any hope of finishing them in time), so some burnt orange Cashmerino Aran is on the way for a mistake rib scarf for FIL, and I'm also awaiting some denim blue variegated supermerino for MIL hat. I should also start on Christmas stockings.

We are going to IKEA next weekend and I intend to get stuff to organize all my various craft supplies. Stamping especially has suffered because of my disorganized "craft area". I need a system that protects my stuff from toddlers and cats, all of whom seem to spend more time in my craft area than I do.

I've finally gotten to the interesting part of the flat-top hat - doing the flat top. One triangle down, 5 to go. Will try to get a picture later, but it's really cool. I spent a few days staring at the pattern wondering how in the heck it could actually work, but once I started doing it, it all made sense. I *love* that about knitting. It just makes me want to do more and more.

If I ever knit this pattern again, however, I won't do the base in the round. The base of the hat is garter stitch. Garter stitch in the round = purling in the round every other row. Plain purling = slow = crazy Heather. Next time I will knit the base flat until the last two rows, then join it on circulars, finish the base, work the top on circs and seam the back. I should have enough yarn left over to do a second smaller hat, if it wouldn't look too goofy for baby and me to have matching hats, considering that baby is a boy.

Waiting on an order from thebeadshop.com. I had a really cool idea for a mother's necklace with all of our birthstones, and I'm antsy to get started on it.

Sheesh, you'd think they'd take pity on me after the shawl incident and let me do something easy, but no.

Cast on for the artyarns flat top hat, joined my circle and - yep - twisted the stitches. Started knitting a mobius. Had to start over again.

But at least I am loving my new Addi Turbos.
